A Whale of a Tale!

A Whale of a Tale!

"Water" was the word challenging our painters this month and we give you many ways to consider this substance. This ocean scene with the giant splashing fluke was created as "A Whale of a Tale" by Carol Tribou. She leaves you free to imagine a...

Cooling Off

Who wouldn't feel better dipping toes in a cool mountain stream during these hot summer days? These wolves seem to be happy doing just that in Mark Ray's painting, "Cooling Off." Mark helps you imagine the warmth of the bright sun and the coolness...

The Conversation

It would appear the feathered friend in this twosome is holding forth with some enthusiasm. The soft fluffy tail of our furry friend would seem to convey a level of coziness right up until you notice the eyes. Perhaps at that point you pause and...

June 2025 Featured Artist – Grady Pennington

I love color but initially I had no understanding of how it works, so I began my artistic endeavor as a pen and ink artist when I was about 18 years old. It wasn’t until I was 28 years old and I attended the University of Arkansas that I met the professor, Leo Davis, that […]

READ ABOUT

Our Story

In 1991, a small group of Paducah painters realized a common need. They wanted to learn more about fine art and painting. Led by master artist and long-time Paducah resident, the late Clyde H. Lawter Jr, the group began meeting, sharing, learning, and growing!

A short time later, the group incorporated as a non-profit organization and were officially named PAPA – Paducah Area Painters Alliance.

The PAPA Gallery on Broadway opened in 1998, providing the perfect place to show their work and share their stories. Some members of that original ‘charter group’ are still painting and showing their work today, joined by many more artists from our surrounding region. That same spirit of camaraderie exists at PAPA today and we continue to find ways to share art with each other and our community.

Our Purpose

PAPA endeavors to bring together artists to encourage, motivate, educate, and promote them, and to promote the art of painting in particular. A principal goal is to increase sociability and friendship among its members. Whenever resources allow, PAPA will provide a theatre to display member’s art – both in the gallery on Broadway, online on our website, and in the community.
