Our Featured Artist this month is living an amazing journey and finding unexpected freedom in the inclusive community that is art. Learning to paint in spite of disabilities was nothing Chris Thompson ever imagined he would do. But when you see his diptych painting titled On the Lookout, you notice a feeling about the image almost immediately. You might consider composition or subject matter but if you back away for a broader view, you begin to realize that the emotion you’re sensing is simply joy.
Suddenly you can see the proud and independent stance of the bird. You can imagine the warm feeling of the sun on your back and the breeze on your face. There’s nothing else to clutter the scene beyond the splendor that is nature. Then if you feel a smile blooming inside, you’ll know that Chris has accomplished his mission of bringing joy to you through his art.
