The picturesque image Jean Lorrah presents in our current exhibit feels serene and loving. The title of the painting, “Survivors: Mother and Child,” adds an unexpected layer of meaning however. Perhaps you’ve seen manatees in the clear waters of Florida and marveled at their size and grace as they move quietly by. It’s another thought altogether when you notice a few visible scars and consider the challenges they face from both natural and manmade causes. But Jean has skillfully provided us the opportunity to focus on the beauty of the bond between the two as they go about their business in calm and colorful water. Perhaps the viewer moves away with a more thoughtful perspective. Drop in at the PAPA Gallery when you’re downtown to see this and other of Jean’s insightful paintings. We simply love to enjoy art with you!
